learn about Recovery College Tasmania (RCT)
it's your choice
Mental health recovery is a personal journey for each of us. Whether we are experiencing our own mental health condition, particularly for the first time, or caring for someone. Learning about yourself through connection with others, who know what you're going through, can be deeply empowering and less lonely.
free mental health education
A free mental health initiative from Statewide Mental Health Services Tasmania. No referral needed. Simply, enrol (create an account) and register for a learning session. We have dedicated staff to support your learning needs.
flexible learning
RCT provides a core curriculum of 27 sessions, over time NEW sessions will be co-discovered with community, offerings will change and adapt based on community need. Students have a choice to engage with 1 or 2-hour learning sessions; in-person at a Mental Health Hub or online. Attend sessions in any order, and the same session can be attended more than once, because we all learn and process things uniquely.
RCT provides a hybrid model with in‑person and online learning so that students can participate in either way - or a mix of both. It keeps the best parts of classroom learning and the best parts of online flexibility. Staff work across a range of areas including teaching and learning support, therefore there is limited phone administration. Students are welcome to access online resources. For educational queries, please email us or contact your nearest Mental Health Hub and we'll respond as soon as reasonably possible.
who can come along
RCT provides adult mental health education. Young people 16 years and above maybe supported to attend. Please contact the RCT Team if you are under 18 and would like to come along.
what to bring
Each education session has learning resources that can be accessed via this portal before, during or after a session. Bring along your curiosity and we'll support you with the rest. You're welcome to bring along family, friends or a support person, but they will also need to register for the session, to reserve a place. Students are welcome to bring along their own resources, depending on how they like to learn.
anonymous engagement
At RCT we encourage mobile phone use during our sessions to share thoughts and ideas. Student feedback indicates that being able to share anonymously is confidence building. Come to a session and we'll teach you how to participate.
learning support
RCT has dedicated staff to support your learning needs. Students have an opportunity to engage with educational supports after enrolling with RCT. Sign-up here to learn more.
a sustainable college
At RCT, we care for people and the planet. We aim to be a sustainable college by offering learning resources through this portal to reduce paper use. If printed copies better support your learning, we’re happy to provide them - just ask!
